The Monkey's Paw" is a supernatural short story by author W. W. Jacobs first published in England in 1902.
In the story, three wishes are granted to the owner of the monkey's hand, but the wishes come with an enormous price for interfering with fate. - Wikipedia
When I was a lad and started writing short stories I remember reading this. The story fascinated me and terrified me in equal measure. It wasn't till I was much older that I realised that short works such as this were guiding my writing style and you know it still does to this very day.
And yes, it's not a monkey's paw but my beautiful daughter not long after she popped out of the fetid womb.
