History of The Louvre 2!

in #photography6 years ago

After some time, different French leaders would emerge and The Louvre would continue to thrive as one of the Pride landmarks of France. It would eventually find a considerable amount of additions when the second French empire happened. This would see over twenty thousand additions to the museums collection. Of course with the sheer volume increase, a more diverse portfolio would emerge, The Louvre was well on its way to becoming a world famous museum that would host art from all over the globe. At this point the museum included many Egyptian artefacts, exhibits from the roman empire, Islamic art and much more.

The Louvre was actually heavily damaged during the suppression of the Paris commune. This would see the French army move into the capital and lay siege on the city. The Louvre of course, being a royal Palace would be out in the line of fire. A raging fire that would burn for over two days would see entire buildings reduced to ashes on the inside. The museum and surrounding establishments were also damaged in the process. Remarkably however, all was not lost and much of the museum was saved. Thus really shows me how much pride the French had within the museum. They recognised it as a national treasure and destruction from conflict would be a grave loss. The firemen and museum workers battled hard against conflict and flames to save much of the history we have to enjoy even today. They are indeed great heroes of history.
