A Lopez Island Journey | Amidst the San Juan Islands ~ Shark Reef Sanctuary Sunset

A journey to Shark Reef | on Lopez Island | “Jewel of the San Juan Islands.”

Hello my great and multifaceted Steemit family!

I've been off the grid for a minute, the ever-mysterious soul of fortune has been churning me into a truly “creamy and delicious” nomad with an ear for the sweet song of serendipity. Who knows what happens next... but the ocean and the islands are calling to me!

The Wonderful West Coast

I decided to get out of Minnesota and spend a little time with my dear friends David and Lily of @verdanttea at their home near Seattle. We took some time to explore nature and sip tea while enjoying each other's company and some delightful conversations over the course of a few days. Once she escaped the frozen tundra, I was joined by my illustrious companion @wolfcat!

In the wake of all the generous hospitality and oceans of sublime tea that was lavished upon us by our friends, @wolfcat and I set out for some further adventures in the San Juan Islands.

We took the ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island, and camped out there for the night at Moran State Park. On our return, we hopped from Orcas, to Shaw, and finally to Lopez, where the “Friendly Isle” began to work its magic on us. I wasn't so sure we would ever leave.

The Lopez Island tale will have to unfold little by little. For today let's focus on a few beautiful images from Lopez Island's Shark Reef Sanctuary.

This is the sort of beauty you will have to endure if you venture to make the journey. The Olympic mountains shimmering on the horizon.

You can't really see them here, but seals are perched upon the rocks, blissfully unconcerned by the setting sun, flopped all over the rough sea rocks like it's just the cosiest place ever.

Here's a couple of nonchalant seals, peering back at me poking my cellphone camera into a pair of binoculars.

The sunset nearing completion...

Another sneaky image I grabbed through the binoculars... the iconic lighthouse poised at water's edge.

I'm in Portland now, just settling in for some much-needed rest. It's been too long since I shared some of my journeys here so I thought some sort of offering was in order. I'll be mining the treasure trove of photos from our visit to the San Juan Islands in the days ahead, so check back for more.

With unusual brevity...

Peace and @lovejoy

Ocean and islands are waiting.. :)

Your island is still on my horizon friend! =)

Being off grid even if only temporarily is very helpful these days, especially to detach from the hustle and bustle we are inundated with by the news or larger crowds, both of which stress out the mind.

This looks just like perfect place for mental Silence!

Yes, so true! I spend more and more time flirting with the edges of civilization... out where I can really think, and breathe, and feel. Yeah, Lopez Island, and Orcas Island both have some amazing public lands to explore.

Wow! This makes me want to go back to Portland and explore the area more extensively. I especially like the seal photo. It turned out well considering it was taken with a phone through binoculars :) Will you and @wolfcat be at the Minneapolis meetup hosted by @timcliff next month? I'd like to meet a few Steemians "in real life" and currently only know one (@relativityboy).

Thanks! We ended our most recent trip in Portland, but these were taken well north of there in the San Juans, in case there was any confusion on that point. As to the meetup, well, I can't yet say for sure if we'll be there! But I'd like to be. I'll make sure @wolfcat knows and we'll do our best. It would be great to meet you. Cheers!

Good to have you back, @lovejoy, and thank you for sharing Beauty from your adventures 🤗

The seals and sunset remind me of Peru, somehow, where I had the pleasure of witnessing both, abundance.

Rest up, my friend, I hope this short note finds your heart at ease ♥️

Glad to be back... I will share more! Mmmmm, seals in Peru! Yes to abundance, yes to a heart at ease. Thanks for your kind words. Bless, b

Thanks, yes.. heartbreakingly beautiful and serene. If it didn't get cold at night I think I would just perch there on the rocks in a constant state of amazement. ;)
