Arizona Scenes Post 22
"We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknown river to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls ride over the river, we know not. Ah, well! we may conjecture many things."
—John Wesley Powell
That is a really cool spot. Watch out for flash floods though!
It's Antelope Canyon by way of Kayak from lake Powell and waterholes canyon, in case you're wondering. And yeah flash floods are always in my mind when I do hikes like that.
Nice! That is actually one of the spots I haven't been to in Arizona.
A lot of people get trapped back at Tanque Verde Falls here in Tucson when the waters rush in.
Yeah it's crazy and sometimes it happens when least expected... Like those 19 people that were killed at Huston Mesa outside Payson in 2016. I used to swim there all the time and it never got flash floods... Until a forest fire burned up the brushes and trees up on the rim that had been keeping floods from occuring. No one expected it.
Yeah it is crazy for sure how fast it can move in. It is pretty scary to think about.
Those canyons are beautiful yet deadly! Flash floods there have killed tourists before.
That is very true. It can even happen on a clear day. People die just about every year canyoneering in the Southwest.
