Montenegro Adventure, Day Two (Part I)
[Текст на српском] Wednesday, Aug 8, 2018, was designated for the first visit to Kotor Old Town, wonderfully picturesque and unique sample of the fortification architecture in Europe…

The day began with a fairly spectacular sunrise…

And then, while we prepared breakfast, the scents and colors of the sea fulfilled all the senses. But we haven’t much time to enjoy the view. It’s a full season, and Montenegrin roads are heavily crowded, so we had to head for Kotor before noon.

Thankfully, the new tunnel through the mountain has shorten the ride, and we were at the gates of the old Kotor town in just over half an hour despite the crowd on the road.

As a tourist destination, Kotor Old Town has a port for the largest cruise ships that are visiting this wonderful place every day. Here is Marella Celebration — one of the smaller ships with its 215 meters in length, 10 decks, 631 cabins for the maximum of 1350 guests and 520 crew members, with 5 restaurants, 6 bars, 7 lifts and… meh… only 2 pools 😉😄

We are leaving our vehicle at the parking lot on the north side of the Old Town walls, protected with River Škurda…

Although it’s called “river”, it is actually a channel with salt water and some merry sea life…

In front of the main (Sea) gate, there is a very nice park with lots of flowers, palms, fountain and benches.

The Western, or Sea gate, is the main entrance to the Kotor Old Town. The gate itself has history all over it — some very old and some of a newer date…

Above the gates there are still symbols of the former federal state SFRJ, and a well known Tito’s words: “We do not want someone else’s, and we do not allow taking ours”…

There are several squares in the Old Town and the main, and the biggest city square is Square of arms (Trg od oružja). That square was and remained the main place for gathering, where people from Kotor assembled having to make important decisions.
When you finally step into the town, at the Square of arms, first you will see an old Clock Tower, which dates from 1602…

But before you notice further beauty of the Sqare’s architecture…

…a mysterious contraption will attract your attention…
Fujifilm X-T20, Canon EFs 18–135mm, f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, @18mm, ISO400, 1/680 sec, f8
What can it be?

There is a poster that says: “Kotor Time Machine”.

True, it’s not a DeLorean model, but it has dates marked all the way to the early 9th Century…

After a short but thorough examination, our investigative team has reached unanimous conclusion: IT WORKS!

So, come with us along the narrow streets of the Kotor Old Town, straight to the history of Boka Kotorska…
