Steemit Travel Vlog 02 - Shooting a Venetian Model (part 1)

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I can't believe it's only been three nights since I've been in Venice. The endless winding streets that sometimes for no reason come to a dead end, the smell of the sea, countless little piazzas and a mob of tourist hemorrhaging around all the major sites is finally coming to a head; I leave for Croatia today. It feels like I've been here a week. I have barely slept because I've been so excited to explore this island city, and I have! I have taken the ferry around the island and up through the grand canal on countless trips. The three day pass is a bargain and well worth it! I finally feel like I understand Venice and I'm in awe of the history on every corner.

Now Let's Talk Photography

My journey in Venice all began when I wandered the streets my first night. I was suppose to shoot a Italian TV personality, Chiara, but it didn't happen because it was raining. We have rescheduled our night shoot for my return on the 9th; and I can't wait for that. Check out my night photography of Venice which is not what you would expect. I used a different technique where the camera shutter is open for 30 seconds or longer.

The camera is able to capture what the naked eye can't see.

I explain in detail in my first post exclusively for Steemit here: https://steemit.com/photography/@lightenup/steemit-travel-vlog-update-i-made-it-to-venice-italy-night-photos

I shot Eva, a Venetian Model Did you see the video above?

I sent messages to several models listed on ModelMayhem and I got a lot of responses, but they were all on vacation or couldn't make meet me for various reasons. I didn't fret because I figured I would just ask someone walking through the streets for a shoot. But then I got a message on my Instagram from Eva that she wanted to shoot with me. I wasn't sure how she knew I was in Venice but I said "Sure, Let's shoot!" Eva doesn't have the typical model stereotype but I looked at her images and she had a big personality that struck me as somene that I would like to shoot.

Eva's English is almost non-existent and I obviously don't speak Italian

We managed to meet at the ferry stop just outside the train station that comes into the mouth of the city. Immediately she gave me the three kisses on the cheeks and we hopped on the ferry to go to the center of Venice. We struggled communicating while on the ferry because she didn't understand anything I was saying. Then I decided to try something, I speak Spanish! I spoke to her in Spanish and then would repeat what I said in English. She somehow understood what I was saying and she would reply in her broken English. It was hilarious and we just laughed most of the time at silly things because what else can you do? LOL

We got off the ferry and she had this huge bag of clothes and she walked like a giraffe because of these major high heels. She said she hadn't been to Venice since she was a little girl. She apparently took the train two hours from Trieste to take photos with me. I asked her how she knew I was in Venice and she told me that her friend follows me on Instagram and said "you should send Mikey a message; you'll want to shoot with him"

So that's how it all came together. Some Italian photographer sees my rambling posts on Instagram and suggested a shoot with me. Awesome!

So, we wandered through the area where I had done my night photography; I sort of knew where I was going. I wanted to find some dark alley ways to shoot. The streets were full of tourist and Venice was in full swing. All the canals were full of people going for boat rides. Eva was wearing her extremely high high heels and sexy outfits. We got looks from all directions: mens and women gawked as we laughed and took photos. It was a hoot!

...more on this later because I have to check out.

Stay tuned and I appreciate your feedback!

Great post and good pictures

I'm planning to start my video & photo project exclusively for SteemIt too. Cool idea to do that.

I like this streets...and good photos :)

I like her smile - its incredibly natural!

The backdrop of Venice for a shoot is just about perfect!

Sounds vital, living in Venetia must be like living in a beehive.

The night shot is OUTSTANDING - pure art, breathtaking! It's just as the pic wants to suck you in...
