Spanish sunset and seductive shadows w/ Lupé!

Good evening to some, good morning to others. I’m checking the last of my “to-do” boxes, getting a Steemit post made before bed. I’m still seeing so much pessimism. I’ve experimented with @onosocial, the EOS Chinese DAC, and read this morning about yet another blockchain drama, firing all super partners because of a few bad actors. On principle, I won’t be posting there, but on top of the crushing pressures of Steemit’s own existential crisis, and the hemorrhaging market over all, there isn’t much to feel good about right now. Thankfully, I beat @tarotbyfergus in several unanswered rounds of Magic: The Gathering tonight. Silver lining, I guess.

I’m going to try and keep this post relatively short because my Trail by Comics: Exposé interview with Thomas Nachlik had me up till almost 4:00a.m. I’ve been dragging all day, so I’m going to get to the new photography while I still have a few ounces of consciousness. All new work from Los Angeles in August during the coast to coast photography tour/family vacation with @vermillionfox and @guthrie. The client’s name is Lupé and I had the pleasure of shooting with her once before. Lupé won a free session during the first NOIR I LA event, all the way back in 2015.

That ended up becoming an emotional moment for all of us. Lupé had recently undergone a massive weight loss. The kind that reshapes your entire body and personal image. Winning the session for this event meant that she only had to show up. Hair, make-up, wardrobe and a four star hotel for the location were all included. When the make-up artist turned Lupé to look in the mirror, she immediately burst in to tears. She was overwhelmed with how beautiful she looked, and all of us, the beauty team and myself in the room, looked at one another. We were all reminded how lucky we are to have this job.

Lupé and I stayed in touch. She’s an artist, illustrator and punk rock enthusiast, so we had a lot in common. Before the trip to LA in August, she contacted me about booking a private session. She placed her deposit and she arrived the day of at the massive vintage estate outside of Los Angeles. She brought two incredible outfits. One representing her Mexican heritage, and a second, sexy black femme fatale lingerie look. The space was perfect and we were able to shoot Pasadena City Hall just as the sun was going down. The second look was throughout the halls of the mansion at night.

More from this shoot to come. Believe it or not, these are the first images I’ve had a chance to get to, so they’re as new for me as they are for you. I remember the first year or so of Steemit, I was digging in to the archives for old work to share. Honestly, for more than a year, almost everything I’ve shared on Steemit has been new work. I have no shortage of that to get through, so once my edits are done, Steemit is the first place it goes to hit the internet. Thanks for reading and supporting. She is beautiful and quite an interesting personality that way you described her to be. These shots are also amazing as they bring out the classy beauty into focus. :D

Thanks @adamada. She really is a beautiful woman, and a great person. It's been great getting to work with her and capture her from her first shoot. That was a few years ago and she's grown up a lot since then. The first image, she totally looks like a femme fatale from a Charles Bukowski novel.

Cool photos... I like it, they make me feel warm :)

Thanks @foxkoit!

Yellow flower on her hair is brilliant 🍁

Thanks @zpzn. That was actually last minute. I snipped one from the garden at Pasadena City Hall, lol

I named it : Golden last minute :) 👌👍

Wow what an amazing transformation. We are meant to not talk about how we look as being important while also being constantly bombarded by how we 'should' look from print, media. social media et al. It's wonderful that she was able to culminate her weight loss journey in a series of amazing photos with your eye. That is a great moment and well done.

I only occasionally check the prices of things now, as I am just trying to not focus on it. I think my biggest fear would be, would Steemit go away? I just joined smoke.io and whaleshares but have not made a post yet. I'm not sure if they can be a sort of steemit or not?

I'll be on here until the last day, if it's a sinking ship, I'm going down with it.

That's a great attitude, @donnadavisart. I bleed Steemit and I won't ever leave, but I'm also a curious creature and check out all the new DAC's and communities that sprout up. Some have promise. I was in to @onosocial, but I didn't see any roadmap to have their ONOT on an exchange. It was nice to have a fully developed iPhone app, but they recently made some terrible decisions [...in my opinion] letting go of their entire super partners team because of a few bad actors. A few of those people helped me and @vermillionfox through some really technical obstacles and I think it sucks they're losing their positions. They were a cornerstone of my participation in the community [...especially considering it's a Chinese app, so 2/3's of the users are Chinese].

Smoke.io I haven't gotten on board with simply because I don't smoke weed, or anything for that matter. That seems like a big part of what the site is about. WhaleShares.io I'm on and that has a lot of promise. @anritco and a few other friends of mine are behind the development and they're all good, talented, hardworking people. Honestly, though, I always come back to Steemit. Often times with a renewed sense of appreciation of how great this place is.

This is a seriously dark time, not just for cryptocurrency and blockchain, but for Steemit. When we're in the middle of it, it seems hopeless, but we're just one turn around from everyone's moral changing. Steemit Inc. really mismanaged their resources and made no plans for this bear market. I did the same, so I can't fault them too much, but their lack of preparedness is taking a heavy toll on the user base and investors.

The picture in the window frame is grand.

Thanks, @tarazkp. I really love that one. Sometimes when you're shooting, you have these rare moments when you're overwhelmed with excitement because you know you're getting something special. That shot was one of those moments.

I can imagine it is one of those feelings that makes a shoot worth it.

I loved the first picture. The yellow light brings a darkness that is amazing!

Thanks @robertoueti. I love that photo, too. It's a powerful image and tells a story.

Lovely pictures.
As always :)
And when I read about the moment she shed tears, a really felt warm inside, thank you for bringing joy to people :)

That was a really special moment @longer. We all knew we were witnessing something meaningful, and our role in it was a great feeling.

The pictures are wonderful!!!!! But also the model!!!

Thanks @carolineschell! I totally agree. Lupé is an incredible model. The theme was perfect with Pasadena City Hall and her Mexican heritage.

Compliments!!!!! :-D
