A trip to... Bratislava! - PART 1

in #photography6 years ago

Hi there Steemit people! How are you today? I hope you have spent a nice weekend and you're now ready and recharged for a new week!

As I showed you in my previous post, my weekend started Friday afternoon: I took half a day off at work and jumped on a train towards Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic!

Built on the banks of the Danube River, Bratislava is home to the most important institutions in the country. Until 1993 the Slovak Republic did not exist: it was one big country, together with Czechia, and this was called, guess what? Exactly, Czechoslovakia! Then the two countries separated peacefully and have been having good relationships ever since. So, no surprise you will find lots of similarities with Czech republic, especially regarding the language, which is mutually intelligible (meaning that they are almost the same, think for example Spanish and Portuguese).

There are many ways to get to Bratislava but I absolutely recommend the trains from regiojet: it's a Czech company mostly known for its low cost bus service (student agency). Recently they started operating trains as well and I must say the service is amazing! The train is clean, seats are comfortable and they give you water and hot drinks for free as well as magazines and newspapers. Your time will pass by in the blink of an eye!

How much did it cost? Well, you'd be shocked : a return trip to Prague with the cheapest fare is just 500 Czech crowns (more or less 20 euros!!)... Incredible, isn't it?

Also, Bratislava is only 30minutes away from Vienna and it is also way cheaper, so it is not rare to see tourists staying in the Slovak capital for the night and visiting the Austrian one by daily trips (extra tip for you guys ;))

The trip takes 4hours from Prague to the Bratislava Central Station (hlavna stanica) so I got there at 7,20pm and headed towards my hotel for these days, right next to the city center: the hotel Skaritz, on Michelska Street. It is perfect to visit the city thanks to its proximity to all major landmarks.

We had the chance to see a lot but for this you will. Need to stay tuned for the other part of my post (suspence... ;))

Cheers from Slovakia!

Great teaser for part 2, I'm very curious about your pictures of your trip to Slovakia!

Part 2 is on its way! I took so many pictures and need to organize them and finish writing the rest of the article... Working from my cellphone makes things even harder but I promise the next part will be worth it.. ;)
