Light Painting Vol. I - Past

Steel Wool - Tyler.jpg

It was a warm summer night, a few weeks before school started back up. It was the beginning of my senior year of high school, and I wanted to start with a bang. Or in this case, flying sparks. Close enough. I gathered a few of my friends together, and we drove out to a park at around 8:30 at night. The four of us, Tyler, Devin, Julian, and me, were all photographers to different degrees, but none of us had any experience with steel wool long exposure photography.

We didn't know what to expect.

We all got burned. Badly. In order to get this photo, we had Tyler stand in front of the camera, chillin' like a villain. He was safe from the sparks. I wish I could say the same for the other three of us. Devin stood behind Tyler, wielding the steel wool. As he spun the wool around, sparks started flying.

Julian and I ran through the wall of sparks with flashlights on our phones just to add a little more life to the photo. On the left was Julian's flashlight. On the right was a "light stick" I had made just for this.

I'll post a formal tutorial if you want later, just let me know what you think about the picture or if you have any questions, I'll try to get to all of them!
