Trash the Dress?
Would you 'trash' your wedding dress?
'Trash the dress' photo shoots are rapidly increasingly in popularity in the world of wedding photography, allowing you to get the dramatic and unusual shots which can be impractical on the day itself. With some choosing to completely obliterate their dress, your imagination is the only limitation. I've seen examples of dresses being torn, splattered with paint or even burned!
To mark our 1st wedding anniversary I chose to have a 'trash the dress' photo shoot in the beautiful town of St Andrews, Scotland, where my husband and I met and got married. Although I didn't want to completely destroy the dress I did want to have a bit of fun with it and here are some of the results....
The session itself was brilliant and really fun to do! The dress remained mostly intact however did collect a LOT of sand, seaweed and other beach debris. It didn't smell too great either! I did choose to have it dry cleaned afterwards and although a little stained, it holds some happy memories.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on these kind of photos! Is this something you have done or would be prepared to do with your wedding dress?

Haha, you're braver than most women I know! Until your post I hadn't heard of the trash your wedding dress thing. Is it really a thing? Down here in Australia I haven't heard about it but then I'm a bloke and wedding dresses aren't high on my agenda of things to know about.
So, it looks like your photo shoot went well. I'll show my wife the photos and ask her opinion the wedding dress trash thing when she get's in from work. We've been married for 24 years this year and she tries her dress on every 10 of October to see if it still fits. It does. I don't think she'd trash it though.
Oh, by the way, she's a hairdresser and I agree with you, I don't think she'd approve of your hair washing method one bit! :) (From a previous post of yours...) Anyway, I gave you a follow as well. Yes 'trash the dress' is certainly becoming a thing here. I've seen a few photographers advertise it as part of their services. Obviously you have complete control over the shoot and decide how far you want to take it. I wasn't as adventurous as many I've seen.
Haha as I said, I've not met a hairdresser who does approve but you can't argue with results and it certainly seems to work for me.

I am fine with people doing what they want with their belongings (there are video smash videos on Youtube that are popular also) but I do have to wander. Will there be some regret for doing this? Will the people involved some day miss that dress, maybe as a hand me down to their daughters?
Memories are worth all the money in the world and sometimes items keep those memories fresh.
I think I would have regretted it if I had chosen to destroy it. My daughter is only 2 at the moment but I hope someday she'll want to try it on or play with it, maybe that could be another photoshoot in itself!
