[ENG-SPN] Forgotten monasteries of Asturias / Monasterios olvidados de Asturias

It is stated, as a sad reality, that there were around a hundred Romanesque monasteries in Asturias, of which so few survive that, without exaggerating, they could be counted on the fingers of one hand. Likewise, many are the testimonies of famous travelers who in previous centuries had the opportunity to meet them and stay in their medieval facilities, since not in vain they constituted, in addition to centers of faith and culture, the safest precedents of modern hospitality, performing hospital work and hosting any traveler or homeless who knocked on their doors. Such is the case of this ancient Romanesque monastery of San Antolín de Bedón, nowadays forgotten and surrounded by the elevated bridges of the modern Cantabrian Highway, which connects Asturias with Galicia and Cantabria.

Se afirma, como una triste realidad, que hubo en Asturias alrededor de una centena de monasterios románicos, de los que apenas sobreviven tan pocos, que sin llegar a exagerar, podrían contarse con los dedos de una mano. Muchos, así mismo, son los testimonios de célebres viajeros que en siglos precedentes tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlos y alojarse en sus medievales instalaciones, pues no en vano constituían, además de centros de fe y cultura, los precedentes más seguros de la hostelería moderna, realizando las labores de hospital y hospedando a todo viajero o desamparado que llamara a sus puertas. Tal es el caso de este antiquísimo monasterio románico de San Antolín de Bedón, hoy en día olvidado y circundado por los puentes elevados de la moderna Autovía del Cantábrico, que une Asturias con Galicia y Cantabria.
