[ENG-SPN] Duratón: A Before and After / Duratón: un antes y un después

This is, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding examples of Romanesque architecture in a region, Segovia, which, in this respect, is a treasure to be discovered. It also marks the site of one of the largest Visigothic cemeteries in Spain, even more important, if possible, than the one discovered in the nearby town of Castiltierra, whose archaeological finds not only surprised but also aroused the curiosity of one of Germany's great leaders: Heinrich Himmler and the famous Ahnenerbe society.

But this church of Duratón, which is currently under a perhaps very different title than the one it must have had originally, that of the Conception, is also, in my case, the genesis, as that bourgeois writer with a prominent stomach and irrepressible culinary inclinations, Chesterton, would say, from which my passion for travel, for adventure, and for these immeasurable legacies of a past begins, which not only enriches the country where I was born, but also the genes of which I am proud.

It could be said, then, that it was here, perhaps with the same nests to which the storks return for the February holidays, that this harmonious ensemble of Sacred Geometry, with its strange yet archetypal sculptures, not only captured my attention, predestining my destiny, determined, like Ulysses, to return to Ithaca, facing the Sirens, the Laestrygonians, and the Cyclops of the roads of Spain, but, like Saul, it was also here that a "light" knocked me from the grotesque life of emulating Villon's dolce far niente in the taverns, in order to find meaning in my life.

Se trata, no cabe duda, de uno de los ejemplos más sobresalientes de la arquitectura románica afecta a una tierra, la de Segovia, que, a este respecto, es todo un tesoro a descubrir y además, señala también el lugar que ocultaba uno de los cementerios visigodos más grandes de España, mucho más importante aún, si cabe, que el descubierto también en la cercana población de Castiltierra, cuyos hallazgos arqueológicos no sólo sorprendieron, sino que, además, despertaron la curiosidad de uno de los grandes jerarcas de la Alemania: Heinrich Himmler y la famosa sociedad Ahnenerbe.

Pero esta iglesia de Duratón, que, en la actualidad se encuentra bajo una advocación quizás muy diferente a la que debió de tener en sus orígenes, de la Concepción, es también, en mi caso, el génesis, como diría ese escritor burgués de prominente estómago e irreprimibles inclinaciones culinarias, Chesterton, por el que comienza mi pasión por los viajes, por la aventura y por estas inconmensurables herencias de un pasado, que no sólo enriquece al país que me vio nacer, sino también, a unos genes de los que me siento orgulloso.

Puede decirse, entonces, que fue aquí, quizás con los mismos nidos a donde las cigüeñas regresan por la festividad de febrero, donde este armónico conjunto de Geometría Sagrada, con sus extrañas y a la vez arquetípicas esculturas, no sólo captó mi atención, predestinando mi destino, empeñado, como Ulises en regresar a Ítaca enfrentándome a las sirenas, a los lestrigones y a los cíclopes de los caminos de España, sino que, como le ocurrió a Saulo, aquí fue, también, donde una ‘luz’ me derribó de la grotesca vida de emular el dolce far niente de Villon por las tabernas, para encontrar un sentido a mi vida.
