Ancient Ruins drone photos - Pevensey Castle - South East UK

in #photography8 years ago

A few shots taken by a drone of Pevensey Castle:

This is a shot taken by a drone of Pevensey Castle located near the south east coast of England. It's estimated to have been built around 290AD so it is about 1700 years old!

There is plenty of history behind this castle which has defend the surrounding flat land over many different battles. I believe it was originally built by the Romans and has never been successfully raided. However, according to plaques on site, the only way the defences have been broken in the past were due to the occupants being starved out.

The castle is fairly close to Hastings and was an important fortification during the 'Battle of Hastings' (French invasion of 1066... a date most people in the UK would have probably heard of).

The castle was even used during World War 2 when gun fortifications were installed to defend against the threat of Germans should they ever have made it across the sea.

As always, I am open to feedback and I am always looking for new places/ideas to venture out with the done. Photos were taken by myself about a week ago.

Thanks!!

Wow, amazing drone photos! Of course followed and upvoted many of your articles. Best regards, Jonas

Reblogged this great article here too, I hope a whale will visit you.

I am not sure how reblogging works to be honest... but thank you very much for the kind words and helping getting the article out there :)

Googled how the reblogging works... thanks again!!

If the date is correct it can be the Romans who built it. Why was this a strategic position for them? They already ruled the other side of the canal? It will be interesting if you know.
If you like history I have done an ARTICLE Calamity Jane.

Thanks for pointing that out!! It was late Roman... not the main Roman empire times. I believe they built a load of castles on both sides of the English channel on key defensive positions (overlooking the sea in case of raiders) while they were facing their downfall.

I do like history but I not great at remembering the dates of everything :/ I have following you though as you have some interesting articles :)

Thanks. You can keep posting about the ruins in England. Europe has a fascinating history.
