When the rain's away, the birds will play
"Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure."
~ Stephen King, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption
This afternoon, since the weather was perfect, I had the opportunity to capture some shots of birds in nature. All shots were taken using a Canon 80D camera with a 75 - 300 mm lens.
The first set of shots are of a pair of Sandhill Cranes that were looking for food to eat in a marshy area.
The second set of shots is of a few Quiscalus major, otherwise known as Boat-tailed Grackles, in flight.
It was the first day in over a month that we didn't have rain, much less the downpours and flooding we have had, so it was nice to get out there and spend time in nature with these beautiful creatures. If I've said it once, i've said it a million times: a day not spent in nature is a day wasted.
One love,
Great shots. Specially those Quiscalus in flight which are just amazing. With telephoto lenses, I imagine it would be hard to shoot moving subjects by just handheld.
It was quite difficult, but there was an abundance of them flying around, so I got lucky on a couple of them! Small birds really don't like sitting still!
Wow, very nice photos, that said to have the nature within a click, thanks!
Great photos; never saw that cranes species before! Where were they taken? (I know Quiscalus are from America but that's a little vague :)
