Walking above the clouds in Paparoa national park in New Zealand

I want to share some pictures from a recent hike in New Zealand. I was amazed by the beauty of the landscapes as well as how untouched it was (not seeing a footstep or piece of plastic for hours - most of the time not even a track, except for the occasional marker showing I was on the right way!)

The national park is located close to famous and often visited "Pancake rocks" but most people just bolt past on their way through, down to the next famous place. Better to stay for a visit to the national park!

The trek is really hard for the first two hours, following a steep path through untouched forest, roots and branches everywhere. The last 3 hours or so are much easier and it's basically impossible to get lost, as you just have to follow the ridge. See the picture below and you will get it!

Overall very recommended! A beautiful day out hiking. New Zealand is a beautiful country and filled with all kinds of places, but this hike here was something different. Just being all alone up there. Beautiful! And arriving at the hut later, cooking a nice big meal, with garlic sausages made in nearby Blackball... No complaints.
