The oldest digital camera i own

in #photography7 years ago

When i first swapped over from analogue to digital i didn't know what to look out for in digital cameras. I ended up buying this camera which has turned into a super heavy paper weight over time. It has a 2 megapixel sensor and the battery could jump start a car i reckon even the memory card is the size of small compact camera. Crazy how much technology has advanced.

One thing is for sure the Nikon F5 body is still my favourite the thing is built like a tank i could throw this camera in a cage with a bear and it would still walk out working. The image quality isn't the greatest 1600 ISO is the max and it looks so grainy almost as if someone has sprinkled paint dots all over the image.

This is also one of the last cameras Kodak and Nikon worked together on. When this beast first came out it costed $11,500 crazy right!

The first digital camera I used (it wasn't mine) stored 640 x 480 images on a 3.5" floppy disk.

I remember using a sony that stored images on floppy disks also it had a side handle that swivelled haha

That’s so cool! Thanks for sharing :) insane that such a large body could only handle 2mp haha

It’s so heavy also but I have to say everything on it feels so solid as if it’s bullet proof

What an atavism! I want to note that DSLR cameras have advanced not only in the technical, but also in the esthetic term. This one looks so ugly comparing to later designs.

DSLR's have advanced so much it's unreal, good for us photographers i hope. Yeah this is like the equivalent of early PCs compared to the laptops now.
