K2 ( The second highest Mountain of the WORLD )
K2, also known as Mount Godwin Austen or Chhogori is the second highest mountain in the world, after the
MOUNT EVEREST.
Its just 237 meters (777 feet) shorter then a MOUNT EVEREST.This is located in the Karakoram mountain range between
the PAKISTAN and CHINA. The name K2 was given in 1852 by British surveyor T.G. Montgomerie .
It is a rocky mountain up to 6,000 meters (19,680 feet), beyond which it becomes an ocean of snow.
K2 was long considered unclimbable because of its great height, almost unbroken slopes of rock and ice, and precipitous overhangs.
K2 is known as the Savage Mountain due to the extreme difficulty of ascent.
Because K2 is prone to frequent and severe storms that make the already treacherous climbing conditions on its slopes even more challenging.
Death rate of climbing -K2:- K2 is dangerous, particularly if a climber reaches the summit. The death rate of summiteers was 10%. THIS year however, almost the climbers made it back to bc safely; except spaniard Miguel Angel perez who passed away in c4.
Summits :- The known number of summits is 48 so far; 32 of them reached the top on july 26th.
Success Rate :- Approximately 80% of k2 climbers reached the summit, this season; a success rate which is unprecedented on this mountain.
Oxygen :- Almost 40% climber who reached the summit this season, climbed without supplemental oxygen.
