SpaceX Falcon Heavy Third Burn from the Anza Borrego Desert, San Diego, California

I was out shooting last night and ended up catching a few photos of the Falcon Heavy third burn! I have to admit, I was a bit unprepared. I watched the launch earlier in the day, but didn't realize I'd be able to see the third burn from out here.
I, of course, didn't bring all my usual gear and was trying something completely different. When I saw the rocket, I ran back to my camera bag and grabbed my second camera body that had a more appropriate lens and fired off a few shots as quickly as I could.

That's awesome that you were able to see it, change lenses and still get a great picture! I think the burn was supposed to last 1 minute? The telemetry data was out there weren't very public about timing, so I don't think many people knew when the final burn would occur.

I was watching the launch live (online) and got really into it. One of the cooler things I've seen in a while.

It was so exciting to see it glow and then to watch the plume expand. On pretty much any other night I would've been way more prepared, but I haven't torn all my gear down from my last trip yet and figured I'd just bring less stuff with me. Photographing rocket launches at night has to be some of the coolest things to see.

You don't often get to actually see a spaceship or rocket 7000km away, either!

Fabulous capture, man! What lens did you use? Unfortunately, I missed the whole thing :) Cheers!

Thanks a lot! I shot this with the Sigma 24mm f1.4 ART. I was trying to shoot Orion with a telephoto lens when we noticed the rocket. So, thankfully the 24 was on my other camera body not too far away

Thank you! It was so cool to see from the desert!

Wow that is so cool. The geek in me is super jealous!

It was so exciting! Did you watch the launch earlier in the day?

No I just saw a video of it. We are up in Northern BC in Canada. Where could you see it from?

wow that is super cool ! Never seen this before

Thank you! It was so awesome to see from out there!

Unprepared you said and look what stunning image you got!
I am really very much impressed.
