Johannesburg is South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, it began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement of the Europeans. Johannesburg is also the second largest city in the continent of Africa, with more than 3 million people calling this grand metropolis their home. Its also known as one of the very few cities not built near a river or a harbour.
