A day on my recent trip to the Indian Himilayas.

Hello Steemit folk.

I think it's worth introducing myself before I go ahead, I'm a travel and Advertising photographer based in London with a penchant for hoarding cryptocoins and sharing knowledge, hence why I'm hear making my Steemit debut post.

With my first post I want to highlight that whilst I am a practicing photographer I am also starting to teach photography and if anyone reading this has any questions or if there's anything I can help you with, whether it be your photography, your camera, your workflow or with Photoshop then don't hesitate to ask.

Attached I'm going to post a handful of my images from my first day in Ladahk, a region in the Himilayas in Northern India.

In the early part of the year their is only one morning flight goes into Ladahk per day to a city called 'Leh', as Ladahk is close to the Pakistani and Chinese borders the military presence is very big and the runway is occupied by the Indian army all day with the exception of this flight.

The city of Leh itself is pretty sleepy in the winter, there are a few Buddhist monuments and a 'Leh Palace' which are certainly worth a look but for the most part there aren't a huge amount of people around partly explained by the temperature being between 23F and 5F.

Ladahk hosts the Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, pictured above. Known for it's vibrancy of colour and the noise associated with the force of two rivers joining, some of the magic was lost on me as in the most part it was frozen over, regardless, the valley makes for an amazing vista.

Later on the same day we visited the 'Lamayuru Monastery' pictured above. It's quite the place, perhaps an hour and a half of winding Himilayan roads from 'Leh', it sit's atop a hill in a small village and in the winter is near enough deserted. You can access the entire monastery which offers some spectacular views.

As we were leaving to make our way back to 'Leh' I saw this boy running away from the monastery, I lost sight of him but decided to head in the general direction he was headed in the hope of asking him if I could take a portrait. Luckily I found him chipping away at a block of ice in a bird bath to run back up to his room in the monastery for water. He agreed to let me take a couple of images before he had to run inside to get out of the cold.

I had hoped to photograph more Monks whilst in Ladahk but apparently in the winter months they move to Nepal to continue to practice in, slightly, more favourable weather.

I spent the next 4 days in Ladahk exploring and photographing different monasteries, getting know some of the resident 'Leh Ice Hockey Team' and hiking a few easy trails.

My time in Ladahk was short but oh so sweet and if anyone wants to know more about the destination or is thinking about going then drop me a line and I'll help all I can.

Thanks for reading. You can see my other work at www.gregwoodwardphoto.com.

Have a good day,

Greg

Nice post!
Beautiful places..I want to go there !
Is any authroization needed to stay there, like Nepal?

Hey Nixare,

There are certain places in Ladahk that you need to get authorization to access and photograph but you can fly straight into Ladahk no problem.

It's quite a popular place for mountaineers in Summer but in Winter I think they welcome anyone who is willing to spend money.

Well worth a visit.

Hi @gregw3528 Looking forward to more posts.

Thank you Tom, going to try some videos next, perhaps something about Travel Photo Tips next.

Awesome photography man
