Journey to the Tolbachik. The story with original pictures (Part 2) - Путешествие на Толбачик (featuring @litrbooh as author)

Here is the second part of my story about a trek up an erupting volcano of Tolbachik. You can read the first part here.

At the end of the third day of our journey we crossed a lava tongue, and since it was getting dark, and we were too exhausted to continue our journey, we decided to set up camp.

After the camp was set, I climbed the lava tongue, to take a few photos. The landscape was truly martian.

Итак, в конце третьего дня нашего путешествия мы пересекли лавовый язык и решили остановиться на ночлег, так как уже темнело, и у нас не было сил идти дальше. 

После установки лагеря, я забрался на лавовый язык для того, чтобы сделать несколько фотографий. Пейзаж получился марсианский.

 Day 4

The night was very cold. The temperature outside was approximately 40 degrees Celsius. Since we never tried winter trekking before all we had is our summer equipment, which proved inadequate: a simple summer tent, two summer sleeping bags each, and our sleep was uncomfortably cold. We slept fully dressed and wrapped in two layers of sleeping bags.

Ночь была очень холодной. Температура на улице была около минус 40 градусов по Цельсию. Раньше мы не ходили в зимние походы, поэтому  у нас было только летнее снаряжение: обычная летняя палатка, по два летних спальника на человека, поэтому спать было очень холодно. Мы спали в одежде, завернувшись в два летних спальника.

We had some water with us, but it froze due to the cold. So, we had to gather the snow with volcanic ash and melt it on the gas burner to get some water. After a quick dinner, and such temperatures force you to be quick, around ten o'clock we resumed our journey.

Мы брали с собой воду, но при таком морозе она замёрзла. Поэтому, чтобы раздобыть воду, приходилось собирать снег с вулканическим пеплом, топить его на газовой горелке. Быстро пообедав, на таком морозе всё можно делать только быстро, около 10 часов утра мы отправились дальше.

After a couple of hours we realized that we were behind on our schedule, and we'll be unable to reach the volcano with our things. So we decided to set up a tent, and leave one of us in the camp, and for two of us to continue the journey.

Через пару часов мы поняли, что с вещами не сможем дойти до вулкана, так как выбились из графика. Поэтому было принято решение поставить палатку, оставить одного из нас в лагере, а в дальше отправиться вдвоем.

Once we reached the upper edge of the forest, the snow cover became so solid, that we were able to continue without our skis.

We were able to reach the volcano crater only around 7 PM, and the sun was setting. The temperature began to drop again. And all of our equipment was in the camp, some ten kilometers away.

Когда мы добрались до верхней границы леса снег стал плотным и мы смогли идти уже без лыж. 

Добраться до кратера вулкана нам удалось только в 19 часов вечера, солнце уже садилось. Температура воздуха опять начала опускаться. При этом все наши вещи остались в лагере, в десятке километров от нас. 

We decided to take photos for 1 hour, and then quickly return to the camp. I selected the best, although they were taken when it was already dark.

Мы решили потратить  1 час на фотографии и быстро возвращаться в лагерь. Я выбрал лучшие из них, которые пришлось делать уже в темноте.

Once I've finished taking the pictures, we hurried back. There are no photos, since we had to walk in the pitch of the night. We returned to the camp only by 2 AM.

Как только я закончил фотографировать, мы поспешили обратно. Мы шли в кромешной темноте несколько часов. (Извините, что не фотографировал. ) В лагерь мы вернулись только около 2 часов утра. 

Day 5.

After getting up in the morning, we broke our camp, and started our journey back.

Проснувшись утром, мы собрали лагерь и двинулись в обратную дорогу.

To return to our snowmobile we had to traverse the lava tongue again.

Нам нужно было опять преодолеть лавовый язык, чтобы вернуться к нашему снегоходу.

Just as the last time the hardest part was crossing the broken lava tongue.

Как и в первый раз, самое сложное было пересечь изрезанный лавовый язык.

We felt as it was endless.

Он казался бесконечным.

Even with snowmobile we reached the village of Kozyrevsk by evening. A car waited for us there.

Только ближе к вечеру на снегоходе бы прибыли в поселок Козыревск, где нас ждала машина.

Not this one, ours was different, but this car made especially good photo. :)

Нет, машина у нас другая. Эта машина просто хорошо получилась на фото. :)
