Toy Review: UbiWorkshop Assassin's Creed The Vial
One of the most incredible prop replicas made by UbiWorkshop is The Vial from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag! This is one of the artifacts left by the First Civilization in the game, though it was not considered as a Piece of Eden. There were actually hundreds of them, with each containing a blood sample of a person. The Vials were stored in Observatories, and they were used along with a Crystall Skull (yeah, you read that right). Together, the skull projects everything the person (whom the blood was from) sees or hears, kind of like a prehistoric CCTV camera.
The Vial is packaged in two boxes, a black one to contain the Vial and a white one as a protective box. There is also a printed serial number which can be used in the now defunct Assassin's Creed: Initiates website. Note: I already used it, I only forgot what it did in my Initiates account.
Inside the black box are foam and felt paper paddings that encase the Vial. Outside the box are the logo of Abstergo Industries and the UbiWorkshop logo located underneath. The box is well-designed to act as a display stand. On the display stand portion is the logo of Assassin's Creed: Initiates website
The Vial is made of acrylic. The false blood inside is most likely colored fluid. Beneath the Vial, the serial number printed on the white box is inscribed.
The acrylic surface is prone to scratch, so it's more recommended as a display than as a cosplay prop. If you can't resist the urge to "play" with it, I suggest wearing gloves also to avoid leaving fingerprints.
The Vial looks incredible on all angles. The biggest blunder is the serial number inscribed on it; it reduces the realism of the replica. Though this was intended to be released in limited quantities, UbiWorkshop released a new batch due to demand. This new batch did not have the inscribed serial numbers.
The Vial was priced at $59.99 in the old UbiWorkshop website. Ubisoft overhauled the old website and opened a new one. Unfortunately, only people residing in North America can view the site. I would presume that they are still selling it at the same price, if it's still available. There is no other website selling the Vial, besides UbiWorkshop. I had to make a special request to a local toy store here in the Philippines just to get one. They sold it for $78, but I got an $8 discount. To date, this is my most expensive purchase yet.
