Puszcza Białowieska (Poland / Belarus)
Bialowieza Forest is a remnant of huge forests that once stretched in the areas of present-day Europe and Russia. Today it is the last natural forest of the European Lowlands, the place of occurrence of many unique and endangered species of fauna and flora, a paradise for biologists and tourists - it is the most well-known bison refuge in the world.
The Bialowieza Forest is also a recognized world natural heritage, and for the Poles a part of history and national culture - is the oldest national park in Poland.
The Białowieża National Park occupies approximately 10,000 in Poland. ha, or about 1/6 of the Polish area of the Białowieża Primeval Forest.
