When I visited Thailand years ago, I remember they had a certain incense, that I was told by a Thai person, could only be burned on Buddha's birthday. I was reminded of this when you mentioned how the temple shouldn't be photographed out of respect. It was kind of the same thing with the incense, except I was told that burning that incense when it wasn't Buddha's birthday could get a person jailed.
