Time for the Photography Tourney Flickr Style

Does anyone remember the heyday of the Flickr Photography tournaments? I sure do, and it was so much fun. People spent so much effort doing photos for this, and the ultimate prize was nothing more than bragging rights. How much more fun would it have been had we been able to win something like steem?

To that end, I'm going to suggest we do the tournament Flickr style here on steem. I'm going to put up the pool money and run this first one, and we will see how it goes.

It's going to be winner takes all, 2nd place is first loser.

I was an administrator in one of the tournament groups on Flickr called Survivor: Flickr Island. This was a 32 person tournament. There was a bigger one called F/64 which was a 64 person tourney. That one appears to still be going on and they have had 82 games (wow). I'm going to go ahead and invite folks from flickr (if they still read their yahoo email or whatever) to steemit and point them here. These are highly talented photographers, so I hope they would be interested in coming by.

Let's do a tournament here, and see how it goes. To sign up, post a comment on this tread with a number. Once we have 32 people sign up, anyone afterward will be an alternate. I'll be the sole administrator/moderator for this first contest, so I'm not going to play.

The rules of this tournament are as follows and adapted from the Survivor: Flickr Island group.

1. Long story short
   Each game has five rounds. Members vote for the photo they like best in the head to head challenges in each round. Whoever gets the most votes wins and then advances to the next round. The last one standing wins! The end.

2. How do I get to play?
   ** There will be a 24 hour time-frame after a game is over, in which to throw your name into a hat for the following game. All names will then be entered into the www.random.org/lists/ and the first 32 names will be the ones who get to play next. We've gone back and forth about how to do this and we feel that this is the absolute most fair way to get 32 people into a game. If you don't get picked, you can still vote!

3. How does it work?
   Participants will be paired up and rounds consisting of head to head challenges will be created. Make a Steem post with your picture and link to that post in a comment on the post for the challenge. The admin will make a post that will be where the voting counts. The photo must be your photo, no derivative works. You may also post a link to a better resolution version. You may also add your photo for each round to the group pool. You also must post a new picture if you advance to the next round; new round, new shot!

4. When does voting begin?
   As soon as the post for each pairing is live. The idea is to have 24 hours of voting, so as close as possible to 12 foot PDT.

5. When does voting end?
   Voting ends the next day at 12 noon Pacific Daylight Time in the US (3pm EDT / 7 pm GMT).

6. Who gets to vote?
   Everyone can vote in every game in every round. Period. If there needs to be some kind of tie breaker the admin will step forward to break the tie. Get it? Got it? GOOD!

7. Here's an example...
   Let’s say your match up is Wednesday, August 12th. You make a Steem post with your photo and link to it in the challenge thread before 12 noon PDT (3pm EDT / 7 pm GMT) that day. Then voting will take place until 12 noon PDT Thursday, August 13th (3pm EDT / 7 pm GMT). Leveraging the Steemit platform, the votes are tallied on the individual photo post that the contestant has created. All players must vote in all challenge threads but their own. Then the admins count the votes and the shot with the most votes wins! Please note that the next round starts 24 hours later so you need to make sure your shots are ready if you win!

8. What happens if I miss my submission deadline?
   If you are a slacker and don’t post your shot on time, you are immediately pulled from your challenge and your opponent will be placed against one of the alternates. If the alternate does not post by 2:00PDT then your opponent wins by default. Alternates subbing in will only apply to round 1. In all subsequent rounds your opponent will win by default.

9. Who counts the votes and decides the winner if there is a tie?
   The administrators.

10. When is the next round?
    The posted schedule is here. Make sure you keep an eye on that to know when you play.

11. Are there specific rules for each photo submitted?
    Well duh. NEW! For the first round of the game eligible pictures will be permitted to have been taken one month prior on the same date as the deadline to submit for the challenge. Example: If the game deadline is July 25th - then the eligible picture will have been taken on or after June 25th. The date will be stated in the thread for the challenge. Your picture must be taken on or after that date. For all rounds subsequent to that game the eligible picture will be 5 days back from the deadline to submit for that challenge. Again, the date will be stated in the challenge thread and your picture must be taken on or after that date. That’s pretty much the only rule to make it eligible. This means that the date you TAKE the shot needs to be within 30 or 5 days, not the date you upload the shot. This rule keeps people from using archived shots. If you use a shot that was taken prior to the 30/5 days or one that has been previously submitted it will be disqualified. One of the points of the game is to get people out and shooting new stuff! This is where Flickr was better, the platform was more photography oriented, so it was easier to see when pictures were taken. This is now on the honor system, please abide by these rules.

12. Where does the voting take place?
    Each contest/challenge will have a dedicated Steem Post. Those Steem posts will show the photos being voted on, and link to the steem post where you vote. You just up-vote the one you want, don't up vote them both. Please, don't delete or change your vote once it's been cast.

13. Can I make an appeal during a challenge?
    Feel free to but your whining will go mostly ignored. This is all about having fun so if you’re uber competitive and all you care about is winning you might not want to play here.

14. May I add a title and description to my shot?
    That’s fine but this challenge is based on the photo itself. Do not add that information to the thread; only the image.

15. What about smack talking?
    We're adults so act like adults. If you start acting like babies then you'll get spanked! And it won't be the kind of spank you want either! Remember that this is about having fun. Don’t act like an ass.

16. How about nudes, etc?
    No photos that would need the NSFW tag on steemit would be allowed to enter. Let's keep this clean and safe for all ages.
