Tree Tuesday - Romantic Weeping Beech at Historic Chateau Sur Mer

in #photography7 years ago

Isn't this the perfect spot for a romantic lovers' kiss? Or perhaps it stirs up treasured memories of childhood games of playing 'house' or hide-and-seek? Come dream for a moment under the cascading, curtain-like branches of this Weeping Beech tree.

Be sure to make a wish as you walk through the circular Moon Gate visible from between the branches....

I love Beech trees and weeping Beech even more. Is the Chateau for sale. I need more room for my cats. he he

Haha! Not sure if it will be on the market anytime soon, but no doubt, it's the kind of house cats would love. Although you might have trouble finding them in it, except at supper time of course.

I love rounded portals like that gate... I would love to have a house with hobbit-like doors.

😄😇😄

@creatr

That would be great! I'd love to find a nice Shire somewhere.....

Very beautiful trees, do you know of the history of that mansion house? Looks interesting
following you for more great articles.

Chateau-sur-Mer was built as William Shepard Wetmore, successful China trade merchant. Upon his death in 1862, his fortune including the house passed to his son George Peabody Wetmore. George eventually married and lived at the Chateau with his wife and daughters during his long and distinguished career in Rhode Island politics, serving as Governor and later as Senator. You learn more at newportmansions.org. There are several spectacular mansions in Newport that are open to the public. If you ever get a chance to go, it's worth seeing.

Oh that's wonderful thanks for the info. Most interesting 🙂

Awesome! I also love how you showed the Moon Gate between the leaves. I would love to see this in person...beautiful! :)

Thank you whatisnew! It is a beautiful mansion and part of a group of Gilded Age homes you can tour in Newport Rhode Island. Chateau Sur Mer is unique in that the family lived there year-round unlike the other mansions which were summer 'cottages' for the Vanderbilts, Berwins, etc. I hope you get a chance to visit sometime.
