Rewritable CD and DVD.
I was busy decluttering my room this weekend and found some really nostalgic stuff. CDs and DVDs that I used to burn back in the late 1990s to 2000s.
Back then, Hard Disk storage is EXPENSIVE. Even though the prices keep coming down but still they are still expensive. It was also the era when USB storage were prohibitive. A 4GB drive in the early 2010s cost about the same as a 128GB today!
CDs and DVDs were the much cheaper way to store big files like songs, videos, software. The only downside is that they cannot be reused. Hence, it's important to plan rearrange the files so as to pack the most into each disc.
They were also widely used to share files among friends and colleagues. Don't even think of cloud back then as 1GBps was considered "Fast Internet Connection".
