Travel the World: The stunning architecture and sculpture of Lisbon Portugal
Continuing on with the travel series, this will technically be Part III of our Lisbon trip, but I wanted to devote a whole post to some of the amazing public sculpture and architecture that we found in this incredible city.
I really can't say I know who this figure might be, but he was displayed quite prominently atop a huge pillar right in the center of a massive plaza. The sculpture itself is stunningly intricate and realistic looking, and the height and size of it make it even more grand.
If you stand in the plaza in front of the statue and turn directly around, you will be treated to this incredible view.
Our friend Sabine couldn't help but take a few photos as well :)
Wandering more through the city, we came across a bunch of old churches, castles, and just really cool looking buildings. We actually end up finding out later that Lisbon was once famous for its advanced architecture. You can really tell when you take a look at some of these incredible buildings.
One of the most noticeable parts of this amazing city are the buildings covered in painted tiles. You see them everywhere and after a day or so you start to get used to them and not even notice anymore, but really they are quite incredible and beautiful. On our last trip to Lisbon Sabrina actually made a bit of a personal project by taking close up pictures of many of the tiled walls that she liked.
Well that's it for this post everyone, I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the beautiful architecture of Lisbon! In the next post in this series we are going to take a little trip to the famous park at Sintra, an incredible place with some amazing architecture of it's own.
