Vintage Photos - eBay Set #1 (73-76)

in #photography2 months ago

See the previous post in this series here.

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

This set continues a batch of slides that I bought on eBay a while back. I don't have as much to go on as to the ultimate origin of these compared to the previous batch. They came to me from eBay and most likely were picked up at an estate sale by the seller. Most of them seem to be taken in the 1960s and same individuals are included in most of the photos. It looks like there are some that were taken in Miami and some that were taken in New Jersey and perhaps elsewhere. I get the impression that Miami was a vacation spot for this family.

There aren't any dates on any of the slides in this set but they all would have been taken in the mid to late 1960s. The first two appear to have been taken at the same event. To me it looks like this building belongs to a church or possibly a school but this seems more likely to be a church event. I can see some musical instruments in the background of the second one. The next two are just different shots of a display set up for a New Year's celebration. While I may not be a able to guess the exact year, it's a pretty good bet these were taken on December 31st...you would think there would be a year on that display.

The entire collection that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.

"I love how you're sharing your vast collection of vintage slides with us! 📸 It's fascinating to see a glimpse into people's lives from decades ago, especially when it comes to family gatherings and celebrations. The photos in this set are particularly intriguing, with the New Year's celebration display being a highlight. I'm curious - do you think there's any way to figure out exactly what year those displays were made? 🤔 And I have to ask... what's your favorite part of scanning and sharing these slides? The history, the nostalgia, or something else entirely?"
