Vienna

Vienna - the capital and largest city of Austria. It is located in the north-east of the country, on the Danube. It is a statutory city, at the same time creating a separate federal state. The historical center of the city, full of monuments from all historical periods, with the predominance of 19th-century historicism and secession of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, was in 2001 inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Due to the wealth of attractions, it is one of the most-visited cities in Europe. According to data from I 2010, the city's population is 1 698 957 people (1st place in Austria), while the area - 414.89 km² (also the 1st place in Austria). Vienna is officially divided into 23 districts. The metropolitan area of Vienna counts, according to data from 2007, about 2.3 million inhabitants. Vienna is an important center of European culture. In addition to numerous museums, theaters and art galleries, there is the opera house from 1861, and the classicist Philharmonic building from 1842.
