Don't give your votes to cheaters! How to basic check if a photography is original or copied! We are planting the seeds for the new harvest!

We hate spammers and cheaters on Steemit!

Lately I've seen a lot of stories with copied material receiving many votes.  Especially quality photography stories copied from another web sources directly here without any credit.

Please don't give your votes away. Be responsible when voting! This way you can give reward to people that are struggling to bring you quality original content.

How you do a basic and quick check to verify if a posted image is original or not:

If you are using Chrome it's really simple:

1. Right click the image

2. Select "Search Google for Image" option

That's it! You will see on the search results if  the same image was indexed before.

If you use another browser you can read all the details of using Google Reverse Image Search.

You can also use http://www.tineye.com - another reverse image searcher

As an example, If you search for the image from this story you will see that I've just added the Steemit logo over a stock image so the image is a fast edit that does not deserve any vote!!! Please do not vote on a story that has posted just a photo like that without any other valuable content. This is just stealing!

Let't try to keep this place "clean"!

I write about science, i summatize actual literature. I am not going to reproduce figures from the articles. I do add an image to go along with my summary. However i just find a public image to use. I shouldnt be penalized becsuse my subject material does not make for easy image creation.

give credit for the images

Use your own photos people ! It's so easy these days to be creative ! No need to steal from others

I am using www.pixabay.com and several other royalty free stuff. Sometimes I forget to use it.

nice post !!! I always post my own photographs here

I don't think It's as simple as not voting. People who write a great story but have insufficient skill or time to create or capture the desired images. But for the sake of quality, most posts will still need images to bring them to life.
In my opinion, Steemit or another platform needs to solve this problem with an easy to use solution.

I think it is better just not to vote for anything that has no added value! A good story that used a stolen image added some value but what about the people posting in @photography just a simple stolen photo?

This is an important issue to solve as there could be copyright infringement issues for Steem further down the line. The simplest solution is that used in the scientific community to avoid plagiarism - posters should credit their sources if the material is not original.

A lot of images and videos are considered "fair use" so it's not clear to the average person what constitutes copyright violation. For example the picture in this thread has no obvious copyright notice (unless it was licensed by steemit ???

This is the example for the average user that he must not give the vote just because he likes the image. We should do minimal research before voting. I'm not discussing licenses here. If the image is used to grow the content value I have no problem, but if the tons of stories in #photography that contain just a stolen image get votes, then we have no added value right?

Now I get your point and I agree.
