35mm Black and White Photography feat. Feathers
I managed to get my hands on a pack of Ilford's ISO 400 Black and white HP4 high contrast film. I thought about what I could shoot with this amazing film, I called a model friend of mine and we decided on a bedroom lingerie shoot with some feathers in the mix.
When you shoot often in different lighting situations you develop a sort of light meter in your head, it is hard to explain, but I know what camera settings to use provided I stick to the same Aperture and ISO that I am used to (f2.8 and 200). With my film camera, the lenses I use are at f1.4 and f3.5 which already adds an extra calculation into the mix, plus the film was at ISO400, PLUS I had two beautiful half-naked girls to shoot.
I have learned to embrace the nervous feeling that comes with shooting a new type of film in a ISO range I'm not used to, but all those other factors definitely added to the stress, however, I think the results were not only surprising but also some of my favorite images I have captured in a while.
