I always wanted to speak Mandarin but i think it's impossible to speak unless you understand the culture. Living in China would help me, as it helped you. So, i would have sacrifice from myself either if i ever had the chance. I didn't. I you ask to me, i recommend you not to think about it. Just live with your great experience and memories.
