Essentially unchanged river canyon was named Gates of the Mountains. . .

DSC01683.JPGOnly 20 short minutes north of Helena, Montana is a pristine canyon that the Missouri River cuts through. Once it was traversed by Lewis, Clark and his fellow expeditionary members. Fast forward from July 19, 1805 to present day and this beautiful canyon that stretches 5 3/4 miles is frequented with fisherman, boat tours and leisure boaters. Even with more traffic than 212 years ago this is still an awe inspiring sight that I will definitely like to experience again.DSC01685.JPG As you continue up the river the cliffs and their characters start to come into view. The next chapter I will show some of the features that were seen by Lewis and Clark as well as modern day visitors. Stay tuned. . .
