Skull collection
So, I've been collecting these handmade skulls for the past three years. Crafts and sculptures of skulls are very typical in Mexican handcrafts, since we have a very particular vision of death.
We have a holiday called Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) in which we calebrate those who've passed. Most of these skulls were bought during those celebrations; the one above tells the story of a funeral that slowly turns into a party.
The skull above was made with papier-mâché to be placed on an altar. Altars are used during Day of the Dead to lay food offerings (ofrendas) for the dead, who are believed to come back to visit their living relatives.
This black-glass skull contained a traditional distilled beverage called mezcal, which is very similar to tequila.
Hope you enjoyed!
Me gustó la que contiene el mezcal. ¡Está bien bonita!
