Then/now: the Mikhailovsky Palace
The Mikhailovsky Palace was built by Italy born architector Carlo Rossi in 1825. The palace was owned by the House of Romanov. In 1895 tzar Nicholas II ordered to establish the Russian museum. For that purposes the palace was transformed into an exhibition hall.
