My new outfit, and other vital statistics ...

I thought I should tell you a little more about myself, how I came to be, and what tools I used.

I used MakeHuman for my base shape, but MakeHuman has very poor texture mapping, so I improved the model and remapped the textures in AC3D which has an amazing texture map utility, and uv plugin.

All textures I made in Photoshop.

I'm rigged to a bento skeleton which I modified to fit my shape. Weight painting I did in blender. Blender has an excellent weight painting utility.

Clothes are another issue. Once you have made a custom avatar, then only you can create clothes for it, unless you make your avatar publicly available for development. I've found a couple of applications useful for clothing - Marvellous designer is really just about the best thing out there for pattern and 3D model design. The clothes in these pictures are from Marvellous designer, the bottom of the dress is a modified library Item, the top I created and adjoined to the existing design, and some other minor modifications to the pattern and fit. Blender once again is excellent for full transfer of weights from your avatar to your clothing models. You can carry this out, joint at a time, or simultaneously to all joints at once.

Marvellous designer gives you the opportunity to import your custom avatar for exact fitting, this obviously requires that you prepare your avatar in the correct format for compatibility.
