Borobudur Temple is one of the wonders of the world that exist in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

Borobudur Temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples or temples in Indonesia and is the largest Buddhist monument in the world.

Not yet known exactly about the origin of the name Borobudur. Until now it is still mysterious. However, the website of the Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture noted, in ancient times around the Borobudur Temple flourished budur tree. Budur is defined as the tree of bodhi or tree of life.

According to his discovery Borobudur Temple was buried in volcanic ash until finally found and cleaned by Raffles.

Some opinions suspect, the temple was abandoned because of the catastrophic eruption of Mount Merapi.

In the late 1960s, the Indonesian government had made a request to the international community for a massive restoration to protect this monument.

Then in 1973, the master plan to restore Borobudur was made. The Government of Indonesia and UNESCO took steps to thoroughly refine this monument in a major project between 1975 and 1982.
After the renovation, UNESCO incorporated Borobudur into the list of World Heritage Sites in 1991. Borobudur entered the cultural criteria representing a masterpiece of genius human creativity.
