CASTLE OF METHONI
The Castle of Methoni, built in 1209 by the Venetians, is a medieval fortification in the port town of Methoni, Messenia, which is located in southernmost point of the west coast of the Peloponnese.

The entrance to the castle is accessed by a stone bridge of 14 arches which was built over the moat.

This small fortified islet has been fortified with an octagonal tower & is protected by the sea on its three sides.
This is the place where many soldiers & inhabitants of Methoni were slaughtered, during the Turkish occupation of the fort in 1500. It served as a prison & torture chamber.
