Monochrome for today ~ Silhouette of Prambanan

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Prambanan in the evening sun... Prambanan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 9th century Hindu temple complex in Jogjakarta, Central Java, Indonesia.

Prambanan Temple itself is a complex consisting of 240 temples that form the Prambanan Archaeological Park built in the 8th century. This means it pre-dates the more popular Angkor Wat of Cambodia which was built in the 12th century. Yet not many seem to know of the Prambanan.

Through time, many of the temples have collapsed due to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but extensive restoration works in the past and as recently as after the 2006 earthquake, have been taken with great care to retain the authenticity of the structures.
