My visit to Kanyakumari - Southern most tip of mainland India

Encompassed by Superb Slopes and the fields circumscribed by bright ocean shores, bordered with coconut trees and paddy fields, all over are few elevated patches of red cliffs with undulating valleys and fields between the mountainous terrain and the sea - coast, so firmly intertwined with Temples, Churches and different structures lies the district, 'Kanniyakumari'. With a area of 1672 sq.km. it possesses 1.29% of the total extent of Tamil Nadu. It ranks first in literacy among other districts in Tamil Nadu.

I started my journey to Kanyakumari from Bangalore (Whitefield Railway Station)

Night Sky captured from running train via Mobile Camera (Nexus 5):

Shadows of the Coconut Trees in the dark, though grainy:

Sunrise at Kanyakumari - Vivekananda Memorial Point:

The memorial stands on one of two rocks situated about 500 meters east off mainland of Vavathurai, India's southernmost tip. You have to take a ferry to reach there. There are two options in ferry as well - Regular and Premium (VIP).

In January 1962, on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 100th birth anniversary, a group of people formed the Kanyakumari Committee whose goal was to put up a memorial on the rock and a pedestrian bridge leading to the rock.

Sunset looks so beautiful, taken from the ferry while going back:

Fisherman's boat - a common sight in coastal areas:

Our Lady of Ransom Church:

This Roman Catholic Church is a delightful building in Neo Gothic style. This Church against the deep blue sky looks astonishing and is overwhelming. The Church was built on the remains of a small chapel dating back to the 16th Century. When you enter the church you feel a serene atmosphere, there is a statue of a beautiful Madonna which derived from Rome,Italy.
