Country's Tallest Shaheed Minar
Jahangirnagar University has erected the country's tallest Shaheed Minar on its campus to commemorate Language Movement martyrs. It is about 71 feet in height and made of ceramic bricks on a basement of 52 feet circumferences, which symbolize the language movement in 1952.
The Shaheed Minar represents its main theme through its three triangular-shaped pillars. The three pillars represent eight important landmarks leading to Bangladesh's liberation: 1947, 1952, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1970 and 1971.
The first pillar represents the Bangla language, arts and culture. The second speaks of history, tradition and people. And the third symbolizes sovereignty, the liberation war and freedom.
The Shaheed Minar at Jahangirnagar University designed by architect Rabiul Hossain. The foundation of this tallest Shaheed Minar was laid on 6th November in 2004.
