Abandoned Structure

in #photography7 years ago

My girlfriend and I set off on an adventure and discovered there was an abandoned structure right in our "backyard" that we had never heard of. I will leave the details out, but this building was a school years ago. The school closed and was purchased by a man who slowly started building his wooden playhouse dream on top of it. Unfortunately, the man passed away before it could be finished. It stands five stories tall and has a really great view from the top balcony. I left that image out because it is revealing of its location. The neighbors fear teenagers will burn it down one day, which would be a terrible event for the structure and surrounding area.

Please enjoy the images!

This is the front of the building. The brick portion that you see was the school walls. The building was only one story and had a roof on top of it. When they started building the structure on top they simply built around the roof.

This picture is from the fourth floor if I remember correctly. The man you will see in another picture said the total building was estimated at 30,000 SQFT so I don't remember every turn we took to get to the top!

One of many rooms in the structure. This place felt like every little boy's dream of having the coolest tree house on the block.

The man stated every piece of lumber was carried up and installed by four men. When the man passed away, they simply stopped coming to work on it and that's where it ended.

This is from the first floor looking out the front door that you seen in picture #1!

This is the only room in the building reminiscent of a school building. All of the other rooms have been changed but this one still has the original chalk boards up and some school or period correct furnishings.

This man is one of the locals and was kind enough to give us a tour around the place assuring us it was safe to walk throughout but with caution.

This is me checking out some old newspapers that I found in the basement from the 1960s regarding fall out shelters and such things of that nature.
