humpbacks surfacing
Being the 4th largest whale in the world, it is surprising that only a little bit of the animal will be exposed when they surface to breath. What you see here is the snout of the humpback covered in small bumps, which are sensing tubercles they use to forage for food. Along with the splash guard in front of their blowholes from which they breath from.
The sound that comes from these animals when they exhale so forcefully at the surface is peaceful. However, if you are unaware of where the animal is going to surface that sound can make you jump and startle you quite dramatically. Either way, it gets the hear pumping a bit faster and you speak a bit of French simply from the unexpected location of this sound.

Great shot of the surfacing whales. Can imagine that they can startle you when you are unaware that they are going to exhale. But what a beutiful sight and sound it is when whales surface, never seen in real life but love to watch nature shows.
