The Last Knockings - Long Exposure Light Painting.

Good Morning Steem,

A superb but chilly night out under clear skies last Saturday, with Paul from LACE and a long overdue meet up again with Marc BB.

We decided we would head over to Racton Ruin for the evening shoot.

After grabbing some food from a local Takeaway, we made our way down dark winding country lanes until we arrived at the location.

Racton Monument (known locally as Racton Ruin) is a folly situated on a hill in Racton, West Sussex, England with views over Chichester Harbour and to the Isle of Wight.

It was commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Halifax, possibly as a summerhouse for the nearby Stansted Estate, though an alternative theory suggests it could have been constructed so the Earl could watch his merchant ships dock at the nearby port village of Emsworth.

Another theory is that the Earl built it as a viewing tower to watch for his son's return from an ill-fated voyage.

It’s is reputed that the folly was also used as a brothel at some point in the 1800’s and now the monument is popular with paranormal investigators visiting to investigate reported paranormal activity at the site.

Witnesses claim to have seen bricks thrown from above, heard ghostly shouts, and intrigue surrounds the myth that the folly may have been used by smugglers.

Once set up, we proceeded with the shots we had in mind and we all managed to bag at least one photograph we were happy with.

Simple set up here using a torch to light the outside of the building and a gelled torch to light the inside and behind Marc.

I lit Marc in with a homemade portrait scanner first, then I had a play around and chucked some lights in behind him.

The second shot is a quick one I managed to grab before we left.

Shot in one continuous exposures theses are both jpeg’s straight out of camera.

No post processing Lightroom or Photoshop.

A fun night that we’ll be repeating very soon, cheers chaps :)
