In the center of the Tagus river, The mysterious almurol castle is one of the most symbolic memorials of the Christian conquest.

Located on an island in the middle of the Tagus river , Almurol castle is one of the most symbolic monuments to be found in Portugal, due to its significance and the surrounding landscape.

Its history is reminiscent of the conquest of the territory in the middle ages. When the Christians arrived here, the castle already existed under the name "Almorolan", after which it was included in the lands transferred to the Templar guard by order of Gualdim Pais .

Together with the castles of Tamara Heather and Cardigan formed a defensive line of the Tagus river.

After the Templar Order was destroyed and the need to defend the territory ended , it ended up in oblivion, restored by the romantic spirit that guided its restoration and gave it the aspect we see today.
