6500 Lifebuoys at the square of Locarno (Switzerland) for the stateless
"Stateless" or "Apolide" in original language is the name of this big installation in the middle of my city, a piece made by Oppy De Bernardo with the intent of sensitize people about the shipwrecks of migrants that everyday risk and lose life, tryng to cross the Mediterranean Sea following the dream of living a normal life in a normal country.
6500 lifebuoy, among wich flamingos, tortoise and other animals and fruits.
6500 are not so many, if you can see them grouped. Is just plastic otherwise.
But 6500 life being lost, yes these are many life of people who had a family and feelings and thoughts, and somebody that in someway loved them.
The entire piece was builded during the night, without the citizens knowing.
A beautiful idea imo, but you know, assholes are everywhere and there is also who attack this sayng is a "pathetic pseudo-cultural operation in favor of the illigal immigrants propaganda".
