Me encanta las idiomas | I love languages
As a writer, I have a natural fascination with language. That fascination extends past the realm of my native language and into others. For me, the other is primarily spanish. I mean, how can you not love a romance language? (Okay, okay, sorry, bad pun.)
The primary point of interest surrounding foriegn language, to me, is the idea of being bilingual. It spawns many questions that I've attempted to discuss with those who do speak multiple languages. Examples of these are: "Which language do you think in?" as well as "Which language do you prefer?" and "Is one language better than the other?" These questions are not immediately answerable, as they are largely subjective and not nessecarily something that recieves a lot of thought.
I briefely discussed this idea with @anomadsoul a while ago, it was breif enough that I don't know if he'll recall the conversation. I believe the primary focus was me commending him on his act of dual posting in both spanish and english. From there it snowballed into me complaining about my lack of fluency in spanish and finally a few questions about which language he prefered and which he thought in. I was certainly intrigued.
Now that I've sufficiently rambled, I'll say my primary purpose in posting this: it is my intention to work up to being a bilingual poster myself. This is not going to happen overnight, however if you happen to speak spanish I'd be thrilled to have a conversation with you in and about the language to help build my skills and satisfy my curiousity. I'm excited to see what's to come.
Note: I'm writing this late at night on a cell phone so I will be proof reading and editing grammar tomorrow morning on my laptop.
Respondiendo a tu pregunta: Which language do you think in?
A note a year later:
I love languages too! I've studied German and Italian. I'm currently learning Ukrainian via Duolingo.
Have you heard of WeSpeke? It's like Skype for the specific purpose of improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening of other languages.
Pretty awesome post, actually yes. I´m sure you´ll get spanish as much as your will pushes you. And it seems to me that you´re gonna get it. As i say, count on me to be your spanish beta-reader hahaha. Have fun with it, language knowledge open doors for anybody!
