The Eternal Recurrence

in #philosophy6 years ago

The idea that we will live our life, repeatedly and infinitely and exactly, is sure to bring dread to some. There are those that feel that life has been unfairly cruel to them in their existence (perhaps this feeling is justified). Those of us that are blind, those of us that are crippled, those of us who develop, by some insatiable habit, a life-altering disease, or perhaps those of us who have made the stupidest mistakes… will all feel some level of despair at the thought of living our life over and over without the opportunity to correct our mistakes.

See, during our life, during our time alive, many of us are blessed with ample opportunity to correct and right our existence. We are afforded the chance to make amends with our loved ones who we may have hurt at one time, we are granted the time to correct our bodies so as to avoid continued embarrassment or pain, we have plenty of days to ask for forgiveness for our sins (for those who believe), but many of us rarely take advantage of this opportunity. We become locked into the distraction that is our existence. We rely on the notion that we have more time…I’ll correct these things tomorrow, we say to ourselves.

Most religions offer us a chance at redemption. We can correct our mistakes in order for our soul or being to be free of suffering after the time of our bodies has run out. This chance at redemption, however, comes at a steep price to us, because we often disregard much of our time as unnecessary because redemption diverts a greater emphasis towards our existence after our life is over. But what of our time here…now? Much of it is wasted.

Perhaps if we were to live our human life as if every action and decision we make, we would have to experience for an eternity, we could fully reach into the clouds as human beings and not wait until the after-life to do so.

Here we are!!! There is no time like the present to truly live. So much of our life is focused on rewards of something outside of this moment, when all we really have is now. Grateful to have come across your blog @therusianmonk.

Thank you and I am grateful to you for your message. Outcomes are pointless so long as we master this moment. Your beautiful soul shines through my screen.

I think many people feel that they live this life and then they're done. They think that belief in the afterlife is a myth. I've always said it makes no sense to have an almost endless universe if our short time on Earth is all there is. Wisdom comes too late for some if it comes at all. Life is a test and I want to pass.

It seems that many of our ideas and motives have been dulled by our daily earthly existence and routines. Many of us no longer recognize what it means to live, beyond heading to work everyday and buying things. When put in the context of an eternal recurrence, then our future selves would admonish us for condemning them to such pointless existences. If our lives truly are one-and-done, then that is all the more reason to live every moment as it could be our last. Thank you for your message and I will follow you.

Thanks, and I hope to see you posting on occasion :)
