HOW TO BE BEAUTIFUL: The ultimate tip!

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Hi, Steemian! Do you think you're beautiful?

I hope you do!

If not... Today I'm going to tell you how to be truly beautiful.

But what does that really mean?

Find out what philosopher Immanuel Kant said about this PLUS the ultimate tip to be beautiful.

First of all, let's define beauty according to Kant:
...
...
...
we can't.

In his book Critique of Judgment (1790), Kant said that there cannot be a concept of beauty: there's no universal agreement on what is beautiful and what isn't.

So... Are you saying I'm ugly???

Well, no. But you're not beautiful either. At least Kant wouldn't say it that way.

That kind of beauty it's just the pleasible, meaning that it please one by the senses, and we approach to it for interest.

Like when we enjoy food. (And boy we do)

So how can I be beautiful? We'll get to that, just hold on a bit.

Let's explain some things:

The pleasure we get when contemplating nature or art, says Kant, it's one that comes without an interest on the object itself, on possesing it or satisfaying any needs.

This means the object presents itself as beautiful because we appreciate his existence even when knowing it's not useful for us.

And, above all: it makes us wonder about it's meaning.

Kant said this only happens when we comtemplate nature. It can happen with art but it's always going to have some interest in it, so it's not pure.

Beauty is supposed to make our imagination and knowledge to play freely while trying to find in which concept this particular object fits... and we can't ever find such concept.

So what we do now? Should this let us down?

Absolutely no!

Which leads us back to the question: can each of us be beautiful?

When we wonder about the meaning of beauty, since we can't find what's it's purpose, we turn into our insides and look for our own purpose as human beings:

TO BE GOOD.

That's where we connect to beauty in the world, we focuse on being a good person.

That way we won't be just a momentary pleasure for someone, we can become beautiful to someone and specially to ourself.

Mmmm... And how do we know we're good?

Well, I'll leave this amazing post by @nirgf about "being good enough". It should help answering all those questions!

Great post!

Thank you @elizbethleavos! I loved your post about censorship, Steemit it's definitely a platform with almost none. Although is not that easy to get to the top.

Beauty is perhaps perspective. Should it be the beauty of him or her, the mountain view or the sunset, gazing to the stars or looking to microbiology, It is how what we see makes us feel. Our feeling we get from the observing of any, can be related to the experiences had in such a place with such a person in such a way. You may think someone is beautiful when you first meet. Should that person not be a person you can get along with, you will soon view that same beauty with a different perspective. Skin deep or all around us. The is beauty and not in most every view.

Wow, that's an awesome comment. You get the point perfectly. I have no words, just thank you! I'll love to see a post from you (:

What would you like to read my opinion on? most my views are, all sides are right and wrong and the explaining why, is where it gets deep and complex. Any topic you might like an opinion on, or to discuss. I would be happy to be included. :)

True beauty, yes so much deeper than just what's at the surface level. These are very wise words from Kant you have shared, to turn inside and look for our own purpose.

Great post #dolphinschool.

You picked a phrase that summes up Kant's intentions. He wanted to give us a way to see moral actions have meaning, despite our apetites seem to get in the way of being good. We're better as we recognize how huge and gorgeous this world is, as if it was made for us! And we want to deserve such gift!

EDIT: Wwwwoooowww... 92USD for this post! Looks like you caught a whale's attention!! Huge congrats.

This is my favourite post for this assignment so far! (And I'm including my own ;P)... I think Mark would say "it has all the elements!" ;)

A reflective post that uses philosophy to drive an important point home... And you used GIFs from two of my favourite cartoons! (Spongebob and Rick and Morty).

Upvote, and the only assignment I've upvoted so far!

(Oooh and thank you for upvoting mine, by the way! <3 )

I figured we would catch their attention before this was over. Congrats sarah!!!!!!

@markrmorrisjr I can't believe this. Thank you so much! I'm so excited and I'm getting ambicious with today's assignment. I want to do a (small) contest. Somehing easy that combines all the tips you gave us today. I hope it works but I'm obviously going to need your support by resteeming (if you think it's worth it). And I think @mandelsage may be willing to participate (:

grin ... I just finished my post with a simple task, not really a competition, that I'm sure you'll want to participate in too ;)

Woohoo, let's do this! ... Rather envious of your post, I must admit, hehe. Mark, is this @blocktrades person an entity you were aware of? =)

Great Post! First of all, let's define beauty according to Kant:

we can't. BAHAHAHA! nice pun. Great layout, very informative review of some interesting ideas, and you carried out the bucket brigade perfectly. Well done.

Now, for the critique. I know, I'm using too many images in the dolphin school post, probably. But, it's boring stuff and I'm hoping to keep everyone awake. While I couldn't point out a single image that did not fit where you put it, for the length of the piece, you might consider reducing them to avoid distractions. But, again, I don't know which one to remove, LOL, (I have to give you SOME critique, or why are we here, right?) Also, I felt a few awkward phrases in the writing. They may be grammatically correct, but you might read through it aloud and see if you catch anything. well done! Resteeming.

Thank you! I guess I was in a bit of a hurry, I read it know and you're right, there are somethings I should fix. I also got excited with gifs haha, I couldn't help it. I guess I wasn't sure if the content was fun enough and I wanted to keep it fresh. Thank you so much for the feedback and for resteeming, I didn't expect this. I hope I can keep deserving that resteem so I can start getting more attention out there. Again, thank you so much for #dolphinschool!

@markmorrisjr @sarahart for better design on readability, when you have images or gifs in this case between text and images are close to each other, center and limit the text to 45-50 characters per line, this works better to the reader eye in theory.

Thanks for the advice, @jan23com!

This kind of stuff is what I'm interested in. I liked how you put your view on another persons definition of beauty. I think you did a really great job on the assignment today.

Thank you so much! I think you did a great job too sharing what success means to you. It's inspiring! I hope #dolphinschool keeps bringing good news to everybody!

What is that old say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. To be beautiful is to be good is what I got out of your post. Boy I must be the sexiest man on the planet lol. Just joking. Thanks.

I was going to say the same thing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So it's not surprising that there is no universal meaning for beauty. Great post #dolphinschool

@mawit07 and @insideoutlet, thanks for stopping by! You're right about that, but Kant thought that the interesting thing about beauty it's that beauty is shareable. That means we may not all agree, but we still have the need to show other people what we think it's beautiful and why we see it that way. So not everyone has to agree, but it should.

Being good is where the beauty lies. That shoul be our focus. Awesome stuff guys! I'm following you guys closely.

Thank you! Your blog is very interesting too! You also have a new follower (:

Wahoooo go Sara. Awesome to see great things happening via the #bootcamp.
